Jamzone 2011 promises to be an historic and record breaking event according to Minister of Tourism Manniram Prashad at the official launch of the event recently. Prashad applauded the organizers for developing the event over the years, moving it from being a one day beach jam to the longest running summer event in the Caribbean. This year Jamzone Summer Break will run for ten(10) days, from August 12-21, 7 days longer than any other event regionally event. Throughout those days various events will be held to cater to the entertainment appetite of a broad cross section of persons. It is because of this hard work and dedication that Prashad noted that every year the event is touted to be better than before and “they have delivered all the time.”
Thousands of visitors are expected to be in the country for this year’s event even to the point where Delta Airline is offering direct flights out of Guyana bound for North American destinations until September. There are the regular Guyanese who come back in time for Jamzone annually in addition to the fans of the various headline acts slated to perform.
Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Yog Mahadeo echoed similar sentiments at the press conference. The company, which has been sponsors of the event from its initial year, is proud to be associated with Jamzone.
According to Mahadeo “Jamzone has come aboard and made us very proud.” It was also revealed that GT&T has signed an exclusive contract with Hits And Jams for the 3-5 years to exclusively sponsor the mega event.
The organizers went the extra step to introduce specially branded “Jamzone” merchandise ranging from towels and caps to bags and baskets. These items are available at Ashmins, Princess Hotel and Cheddie Jagan International Airport Timehri.
