Artiste Update – Konshens

KonshensRecording artist Konshens has been all about work since the beginning of the year after closing out 09 almost out of the eyes of the public, the artist intentionally turned down all local  bookings in the busy Christmas season and instead focused his attention on completing the video for the groundbreaking track “the realest song” along with making plans for the promoting of his label SUBKONSHUS MUSIC which features artistes such as his older brother and mentor DELUS and the new prodigy DARRIO who is featured on his track “do di ting” on the go go club riddim….. “I think dancehall in Jamaica surrounded only 2 entities and everyone else was a sideshow, I refuse to be a sideshow so as a businessman I opted to take my work elsewhere and redirect my attention until the biz was ready again” said Konshens.

His decision proved to be a success as the artiste has been getting rave reviews for his work as director of “the realest song” video and heavy rotation of his tracks in various parts of the world. “yeh it work out, people all ovah a talk bout di video and other videos I’ve done start get highlighted because of this one, I’ve also been getting alot of requests to direct videos for people internationally so it’s a good look; di song dem a beat all bout inna earth and di realest song a creep up pon di people inna Jamaica now to su mi like dat”.

Konshens mentioned that he was coming off a 1 week tour in Guyana dubbed, the ‘Konshens in Koncert (K.I.K)’ tour, and the ‘Got Green’ tour in San Francisco, Fairfax and Humboldt county, all in California, USA. He has also been busy on the local scene, guest hosting on the valentines weekend edition of the FIWI Choice chart show, was recently the guest judge on the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and was a headliner on the popular RJR cross country tour.

He also mentioned that he has also been doing some work with Mackeson Stout for whom he is the official spokesperson, and is scheduled for a short Caribbean tour in April which includes St.Lucia, Grenada and a Mackeson concert in Antigua. He is also again featured on the upcoming season of RE school tour and is scheduled to perform as the main act on the finale for the Barbados school tour.

Currently Konshens is working on new material for the fast approaching summer season, teaming up with popular producer ‘Russian’ who produced hits such as this means money, good girl gone bad with Tarrus Riley, and ‘do di ting’ featuring Darrio on the Go Go Club riddim. Konshens is also featured on the producer’s newest riddim ‘Bombdrop’ with a track titled ‘Chalice Load’ featuring Delus.

Album due out this summer, upcoming tours, label and his artistes, several singles out such as “original yaad”,”food”,”out the ghetto and “got to go” produced by YOUNG VETERANS/SUBKONSHUS, VERY HUGE RECORDS,GACHAPAN RECORDS/SUBKONSHUS and INFINITE RECORDS(France) respectively… Konshens is still winning!!

Bones man also extended gratitude to his producer and mixer Burchmore Simon of the Kross Kolor records and explained that his winning formula was to focus on highlighting the festival that sets Guyana apart from the other countries.

“When I wrote the song I took into consideration the fact that every country with a carnival always sings about their festival while we don’t have many people singing about Mashramani and it’s what makes us unique as a Guyanese people so I don’t care what no body say Mashramani time is we own…” he said.

Second and third place finishers Melissa Vanilla Roberts and Beverly Williams also collected their cheques for $500,000 and $250,000 respectively. Roberts also collected her $50,000 cheque for being the adjudged the most voted for artiste in the competition.
