Timeka Marshall

Guyana’s very own Timeka Marshall kicks off a two week tour in Tokyo, Japan this weekend when she will be opening for Jamaican group, L.U.S.T.!
The Guyanese songstress told Hits and Jams Entertainment that she is completely ecstatic about the tour which officially begins Saturday, October 05, 2013 in Tokyo.
Vocal group, L.U.S.T., is made up of Tony Curtis, Singing Melody, Lukie D and Thriller U. During the late 90s, the performers made their way on to the music scene as a group with the intention of putting the “flava back into reggae”. The group is known for song ‘Sweetness of your Love’ and covers ‘Stay’ and ‘Just as I am’ and many others. However, the four solo artists that make up this band are more recognized for their individual singles and covers.
The concerts scheduled under this tour will see Marshall, L.U.S.T. and popular Japanese acts sharing the stage!

Timeka Marshall and Busy Signal goes ‘Doggy Style’

Guyanese Songstress Timeka Marshall and Jamaican Dancehall Reggae artist Busy Signal are tearing up the charts with fresh out the oven ‘Doggy Style’!
Collaborating with the artistes to produce this mega tune was Major Lazer, a musical project by DJ/Producer Diplo. This particular mastermind has worked with the likes of Beyonce, J. Cole and No Doubt among others.

With hot, saucy lyrics combined with the sounds of the So Shifty Mix, Timeka and Busy Signal are sure to create havoc whether on the street corners, the clubs or live concerts.
The song had hit YouTube last week and generated quite a buzz as several persons took to their Facebook pages, reposting the audio and as observed, ‘Doggy Style’ has been getting nothing but great feedback. Fans have even been asking about the release of a video but this is yet to be determined.

The two got together in 2009 and produced ‘Feel Fah’ which rocked the charts. It is anticipated that ‘Doggy Style’ will outdo the previous collaboration.
Marshall had been busy in the studio during 2012 with productions such as ‘Kisses Softly’, ‘Come Over’ featuring Konshens and more recently ‘Undercover Lover’. She has come a long way and worked with some of the biggest names in the industry such as Beenie Man, Kes the Band and Peetah Morgan.
Meanwhile, Busy Signal’s album, Reggae Music Again, which was released in April 2012, was placed at number seven on Welcome to the top 25 albums of 2012, a chart compiled by music pundits at BBC Music. According to a release from the station, the table is based on votes from “a wide selection of BBC Music critics, DJs, and presenters from Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 1Xtra, 6 Music, BBC Scotland and BBC Ulster”.

Timeka Marshal teams up with Konshens for ‘Come over’ single

Timeka Marshall
Timeka Marshall

In the past years we’ve seen and heard Timeka Marshall alone and with other regional acts and then a brief silence followed but at present she’s teamed up with Jamaican sensation Konshens and the combination is electrifying.

Fans can look out for the new projects such as the Under Cover lady Video with a prequel to follow. It tells the all too familiar reality story for some women who have played the secret role of mistresses… The songs tells the story of a woman being tired f being the best kept secret while the video contradicts the message where an exotic dancer is heartbroken…the rest is to be seen in the prequel coming soon.

But that’s just the tip of the ice berg in the world of Timeka as she’s also got a few new songs such as the dancehall Caribbean up tempo Si (see) How MI Hot on the Love Bug rhythm by producers Washroom entertainment out of Jamaica. That song is already tearing up the hot 97 airwaves in New York. Then she has a song titled ‘I’ll be there for you’ on the focus rhythm, Kisses softly on the 9.58 rhythm, Steeling feeling on the Sweet ride rhythm and the new single titled ‘Come over’ produced by the subkonshus label. The later has been doing great on various charts and the video shoot is set for Timeka’s return to Jamaica. The director for that video is Gareth Cobran whose work with Timeka in the past include Feel fah and Secretes/ Hush with Timeka and Peeth Morgan.
As the year draws to a close and the New Year dawns Timeka is working to release several videos that will certainly leave tongues wagging with requests for more.

What started out as a by chance entry into the GTT Jingle competition in 2006 and a follow up release of the separate song has come full circle for Timeka Marhall. This Guyanese eye candy with countless releases to her name is not just in the music for singing but also is a writer who has co-wrote hits not just for herself. Her collaborative sojourns have seen her pairing up with Busy signal, Peetah Morgan and Skinny Fabulous. And word is she’s already done recording collaborations with Romain Virgo, Laza Morgan of ‘one by one’ fame, D’Major and Konshens.

The six years ride thus far in the industry has been good for me and I know for a fact that its definitely been about growth… I’ve grown and the name as well as the accomplishments has been many as I’ve been able to take kind the council the years from producers and artistes alike that I’ve encountered. She has worked in Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, Canada, the USA and Trinidad.
Ultimately Timeka is based in Jamaica these days and as she progresses she says ‘Sky is the limit not just for me but for the work I do.

Jamzone International Night Review

Trey Songz
Trey Songz

Has anyone ever told you that an “opportunity lost can never be regained”? They are usually right, and if you missed universal megastars Eve and Trey Songz then shame on you; just shame! It was mind-blowing, and this is from a man’s point of view; just imagine how the ladies are still feeling. The crowd was enormous, comprised primarily of ladies of course, and the atmosphere was pulsating. The Guyanalive.com team had access to almost every area and whether it was VIP or general section, the feeling was the same – excitement and monumental levels of anticipation. In the VIP and LVIP (Luxury Very Important Person) sections there were lots of drinks and food (some free) distributed by beautiful waitresses from the Shakers Cocktail Bar.

Eve
Eve

The audience was mixed with people from all walks of life – the young, the old, the straight and the gay. It was a plethora of well-dressed, well-mannered and joyous patrons. The Jamzone International Pageant delegates also graced the masses with their presence and they were warmly welcomed. We at Guyanalive.com presume that there were no serious issues because of the heavy security provided by the Guyana Police Force

Timeka Marshall
Timeka Marshall

The performances were kicked off by local hip-hop star Don Gialiani, with his hype lyrics and sick dances. However, he failed to get the crowd moving enough and as such his stint was short-lived. Timeka Marshall, our very own singing sensation, did a much better job with hits like “Whining Pro” and “One More Day”. Her dancers were fantastic when they showed the audience how to do certain dances that her songs instructed. She then surprised us all by doing a collaboration with West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo (who substituted for Beenie Man) which was seriously not bad. However, Bravo decided that he would continue trying to entertain us all after Ms. Marshall’s performance but was quickly stopped. After a brief interlude, American Superstar Eve, known as the First Lady of the Ruff Ryders, made her way to stage and was welcomed by dropped jaws and loud cheers. She was absolutely stunning in a partially sequinned, partially see-through black bodysuit and red shoes, which made her stage presence much more appealing. She delivered tracks from the old hip-hop generation along with some new hits. Her dancers (hailing from the USA) spared us no moves as they wowed the masses with their sultry moves and attention-commanding outfits.

Then, it was the moment we were all waiting for. After a short awkward silence and the assembly of a live band, we were teased by an interlude from the album Passion, Pain and Pleasure before seeing the Prince of Soul and R&B making his way to the stage casually dressed in short khaki pants and a white T; from that moment, pandemonium was everywhere. Ladies screamed, hyperventilated and pulled great amounts of hair from their heads as he smiled, and sang nothing but hits. He graciously interacted with the crowds of females, teasing their very beings by taking off his shirt and vest and throwing them into the audience. He was in total control of the stage and left us all wanting more. But, before he left he chose a lucky lady from the LVIP section to come on stage and collect his vest (which he tore from his ripped body) as a token of his appreciation. She blushed and gushed while he serenaded and caressed her; he also instructed her to wear it every night when she went to bed, so that she would always think of him. Imagine the jealousy of the other female fans as they witnessed the man of their dreams embrace another woman while they wished it was them. He encouraged all committed females to remain in their relationships if they were happy but enticed all single ladies to join him in his hotel room after the show. Of course, all females wanted to take him up on his offer.

Don Gialiani
Don Gialiani

Even though we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the show we must interject our constructive criticisms of the evening’s events. First of all, if the LVIP experience just means free food and drinks for $30,000 and excludes any mingling with the performing artistes, then why do it at all? Many complained that they felt robbed because they could’ve paid the regular cost or the cost for VIP ($20,000) and had just as much fun. Maybe the Hits and Jams team can amend this for the Regional Night. When we at Guyanalive.com thought about it, there was not much memorabilia to receive nor were there photo ops for artistes with fans. Then, and most importantly, some media houses were given the shorter straws when it came to access. For instance, the Guyanalive.com team had VIP Media Passes only and as such they were restricted from entering the LVIP section. Some other media houses had All Access Passes and were even allowed backstage; that strikes us as slightly unfair and we would love to hear the explanation behind such a decision. All in all though, it was a great show and we give it an 8 out of a possible 10 on the Guyanalive.com scale. We have just one closing question: How will Hits and Jams top this?!

Timeka Marshall to premiere ‘One More Day’ Video on Sunday May 23 on HJTV

Timeka Marshall Video ShootGuyanese songstress Timeka Marshall who copped the title of Best female Reggae/Dancehall artiste at the recently concluded Guyana Artistic Music Awards is set to release her fifth video for her new release ‘One More Day’ an inspirational song which has been receiving great reviews nationwide.

The video directed by Marshall’s manager Kerwin Bollers and produced by Artistic Marketing was shot on location at Guyana’s Brickdam Cathedral of Immaculate Conception and is quite momentous since it is the singer’s first ‘locally-produced’ music video.

Bollers explained that the location was especially appropriate since it perfectly exhibited the video’s theme and it is also one of the few architectural-wonders among the masses of Guyanese buildings.
The reggae track which has been described by many as having a ‘gospel ‘ sound; generally speaks about assessing the important things in life and paying reverence to god for health and strength. Marshall explained that the song holds special sentiment since she acquired its inspiration from observing the struggle of a close friend whose mother was terminally ill. She was extremely traumatized by the incident and realized that people sometimes ask pray for the less important things in life when in fact they should pray for health, strength and spiritual direction.

Several local celebrities and entertainment-personalities including Celeste David, Miss Guyana World 2009 Imarah Radix, 2010 Junior Calypso Monarch Tenecia DeFreitas and Soca diva Melissa ‘Vanilla’ Roberts are featured in this video.
This will be the fifth addition to Timeka’s repertoire of videos which include recent hits ‘Separate’,All Night’, ‘Hush’ a collaboration with Jamaican reggae megastar Peetah Morgan and ‘Feel Fah’ featuring Dancehall Superstar Busy Signal.

The General public is advised to tune in to Hits and Jams Television HJTV on Sunday May 23 for the video’s premiere at 13:00hrs and a rebroadcast at 19:00hrs.

Timeka Marshall on a roll…Helps Busy Signal rock Antigua show

Guyanese music lovers locally have not always been kind to Timeka Marshall’s live performances but have recently been enjoying several commendable recorded hits from the artistes. However, if the response from the Antigua based Guyanese can be used as a measuring tool to her development in live performance capabilities, then she’s making waves in person on stage.  Last Friday night Jamaican dancehall/reggae artist Busy Signal rocked the crowd at Paradise Lawn, Antigua and aside from other performers the Guyanese diva sure did help. Reports from the island indicated that Antigua got a piece of Busy at his best and loved every bit of Guyanese singer Timeka Marshall. Hosted by Zugu and Ibis Marshall according to one report attracted a huge Guyanese crowd, and so did Peter Morgan of Morgan Heritage.

The show, dubbed “One More Night”, had a fairly good turnout overall, and was full of entertainment to the end. Timeka Marshall was the first performer for the international acts after the intermission, and according to reports from Antigua she has her Guyanese fans that got into a screaming frenzie with every song. Though fairly new to the international entertainment circuit, Timeka proved a sure force to be reckoned with as an international singing diva in the making. It was her first performance in Antigua, but she did put on a good show nonetheless. The next artist on stage was Peter Morgan who has performed in Antigua several times in one year again rocked the audience with his conscious music. Before his performance, the same way he did in Guyana, he made it clear that he’s been on a solo tour, but is still a dedicated member of the Morgan’s Heritage group. “Forget the rumours,” he said, “to me it’s the best group in the world.

Busy Signal was the main act of the evening entering the stage to hundreds of screaming ladies to the front of the stage. An Antiguan noted that his performance kept the patrons wanting for more.
His most celebrated hit songs were One More Night, and Night Shift, which is a hot club favourite.
As he did in Guyana for the Jamzone Summer Break 2009 Busy fused reggae, R&B and other genres of music to create his original sound.

It’s Timeka!!!

‘Many come and go but she’s gonna be around for along long time’ – Petah Morgan

She completed two music videos with Petah Morgan as a singer in one and an actress in other and it seems that Guyanese rising star Timeka Marshall has made quite an impression on lead singer of Morgan Heritage reggae band.

The artiste during his visit to Guyana for the Jamzone Summer Break Weekend dubbed working with Timeka on the Music videos Hush/ Secrets and Golden Brown an honour.  While the local critics have had their say Morgan has concluded that “she’s a hard working young lady with a bright future in this (music) business.” Issuing major credits to Guyana for producing such great talent he said “she’s a total package and is good to go.” These praises come following Busy Signal’s recent commendation of Timeka as a sure Caribbean music seller with time.

He told entertainer too that “Timeka Marshall is a great artiste with much promise.”

Morgan also categorically stated “I’ve seen many come and go but to me Timeka is going to be here for a long time because she’s got the drive, she’s a brilliant entertainer and a brilliant song writer so she has my backing 100 percent on her musical quest.”

The local song bird may have been missing from the many local shows she sure is doing her bit to make her mark for the country in the regional music market. Her most recent release is the explosively sexy music video with Jamaica’s Busy Signal titled ‘Feel Fuh.’ The artiste who believes that music is one of; if not the sweetest things she knows entertainer understands has already recorded an inspirational gospel single that is sure to inspire music lovers. That has not been released just yet but according to an article in the Jamaica Gleaner Timeka has apparently made the land of ‘Wood and Reggae’ her second home in the best interest of her musical development.

Marshall who came to local fame after winning the first ever GT&T Jingle competition is steadfast on her quest to be the hottest singer out of Guyana. The Jamaican Gleaner Newspapers reported and she has confirmed on her FaceBook page that she is set to share the stage with Jamaican dancehall ‘hot head’ Busy Signal and Morgan Heritage’s Peetah Morgan on October 30 in Antigua at the ‘One More Night’ show. Her face book post states “Coming to ANTIGUA on Oct 30th for show called ONE MORE NIGHT feat Busy Signal and Peetah Morgan.” Already Guyanese fans in Antigua are hyped about Marshall’s arrival there.  “Hope when u come here in Antigua, You big up your GT people we will support you a 100%,go girl,” is among the post out of Antigua  in response to the news of  Marshall’s visit to that island.

The Antigua show is being touted as a mega Caribbean party to unfold at the Paradise Lawn.

Marshall is also set to appear at the Dominica Creole Festival along with Morgan Heritage with whom she released the hit singles “Secrets and Hush”.

According to the Jamaica Gleaner article Marshall’s trek across the Caribbean is a labour of love.

While she underwent training in Barbados, the 20-year-old singer, is also diligently working in studio with noted musicians and producers such as Busy Signal, Shane Brown, Stephen McGregor and Peetah Morgan.

“Jamaica is the music capital of the Caribbean right now,” she says.

Peetah Morgan’s support of Marshall’s talent did not stop at the video collaboration of their singles Secrets and Hush, but was the catalyst for the collaboration with Busy Signal titled Feel Fah.

Dubbed as a “saucy and seductive maverick,” Marshall recently shot the video to the single, produced by JukeBoxx’s Shane Brown, which is enjoying heavy rotation in Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana.

This is on the heels of completing the music video for her sultry Stephen McGregor-produced single; All Night Director Jay Will was responsible for the concept and direction of the video.

During his recent visit to Guyana for the Jamzone Reggae concert Petah Morgan said Timeka
Featured on The Basia show

After spending time in Barbados honing her talent, recently Timeka accepted the invitation to visit Trinidad and share her most recent work with Ms. Basia before heading off to Jamaica where she is based to get back in the studio.

Host Alicia Powell interviewed the young singer as a featured guest and it was aired on Friday October 9. Timeka also used the opportunity to launch her latest music video for the single ‘Feel Fah’ featuring Busy Signal.
