The Guyana National Stadium was definitely the place to be last evening as thousands attended the Jamzone Regional Night Super Concert featuring Jamaican artistes Cham, Konshens and Bounty Killer. (Mavado was slated to perform as well, but due to a “travel document” issue he was unable to make it to Guyana).

The concert was truly an entertaining one. The show started after 12 with Guyanese Jory Hector opening the performances. Mr. Ah De Real Thing did an amazing job in hyping the crowd as he belted out his hottest songs such as “Down Deh”, “Blackberry”, “Let It Guh Suh” and his very famous “Mr Limpy J”.

Jory made way for Cham who took us from classics such as “Ghetto Story”, “Many Many”, “Strange Things” (to name a few) to hits such as “Wine”, “Backway”, “Drop it” and “Tun Up”. Cham mentioned that he had a special surprise for everyone; that surprise came in the form of the very pretty, Ophelia, commonly known as O, his wife who accompanied him on stage and together they sang “Tun Up”. Cham was full of energy and he enjoyed showing off his expert dance moves throughout his performance.

The next performer to grace the stage with his presence, cute smile and signature red head was Konshens. He had the Guyana National Stadium in a frenzy as he had everyone dancing to songs such as “Realest Song”, “Do Sumn”, “Good Girl Gone Bad”, “A So Mi Tan”, “Hot Patty” and the girls anthem “Gal A Bubble” to name a few. Of course, he invited a young woman on stage to dance with him and of course he took off his shirt and of course the ladies loved it . Utterly lively and full of excitement are just two ways to describe his performance.

The Warlord also known as the Five Star General most commonly known as Bounty Killer headlined the concert and though he took the dancehall merriment down a notch, his fans truly enjoyed his performance. The Ghetto Gladiator satisfied his fans by belting out hits such as “Bullet Proof Skin”, “Benz and Bimmer”, “Get Gyal Everyday”, “Dangerously” and “Want War”, to name a couple.

Bounty Killer was also honoured by the  Hits & Jams Entertainment Group and received the third Jamzone Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was presented to The Warlord by Jory Hector on behalf of the group.

Jamzone Regional Night 2012 exceeded all expectations. Though, Mavado was missed by some persons, they were greatly compensated for his no-show by the excellent performances of these very gifted Jamaican dancehall artistes and Guyana’s very own dancehall sensation, Jory.

Let’s see if Jamzone’s International Night Super Concert , slated for tonight, featuring Elephant Man, Spice, Macka Diamond and the ‘illest’ hip hop boss in the game, Rick Ross can top this.

Jamzone Regional Night Review

Mavado aka Gully Gad performing at Jamzone Regional Night 2011
Mavado aka Gully Gad performing at Jamzone Regional Night 2011

We at Guyanalive.com think it is only in this beautiful country of ours that an entertainment company can plan a show and have as much hype before the show, like what happened with dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel and the Hits and Jams family. The details are still sketchy as to why the Jamaican artiste did not show (despite being paid a hefty advance), but the show went on with the other item on the list, Mavado. Let us first say that the turnout was quite large, even though most persons complained about the absence of “Di Teacha”. And Mavado held his own with sheer skill, not that we expected any less.

The first entertaining item was local star Jory. Those of you who have been to shows that featured Jory know that when we say he was hard, you know we’re telling the truth. He commanded the crowd with his lyrics and made them sway from to side to side, bobbing their heads in jubilation and showing abundant “gun fingers”. That was followed by Guyana – born superstar, Natural Black. He was naturally a performer, with tracks that touch our hearts and our minds. Even though the aroma of marijuana was rampant, the high we experienced was encouraged by fantastic music. We at Guyanalive.com recommend that H&J feature this phenomenon in all their dancehall and reggae acts.

Then, like a pleasant surprise at Christmas time, Mavado entered the stage! Even though there were pauses by the sound system, the National Stadium at Providence wasted absolutely no time grooving to the “Gully God’s Stulla Rhythms”. Hit after hit, like a Mike Tyson fight, Movado delivered to all in attendance. Males and females sang each song (lyric for lyric) while jumping and throwing their hands in their air. The young and the old (well, not too old) never missed a beat while gyrating to the sounds that now helps to define dancehall music.

Now that we have expressed our joy from being at the Jamzone Regional Night we want to firstly say that it was very devastating to know that the “Gaza King” was not there. Even though we think there would have been some tension between supporters if he was there, we still missed him. We know for a fact that it was out of the promoters’ hands to change the outcome of the show so we will not go further. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the show; ghetto, lively and exciting. On the Guyanalive.com scale we give it a 6 1/2 out of a possible 10, only because Vybz Kartel was absent. Sorry Hits and Jams, better luck next time.

Jory Hector, Adrian Dutchin and Peter Ram – OMG Remix

These are the exact words that people will be uttering when they hear the recently recorded ‘O.M.G remix’ which features upcoming Dancehall Star Jory Hector, Barbadian Soca megastar Peter Ram and the song’s original singer Guyanese soca sensation Adrian Dutchin.

The original song which was produced by musical-genius, Keyes and recorded at Kross Kolor Studios has been blazing the airwaves however; this official remix is anticipated to be a definite chart-topper since these three amazing artistes have added their unique styles to this groovy dancehall mix.

Jory, who is vividly heard in the second verse articulating his appreciation for well-figured women effortlessly, complements the chorus with eight bars of cunning rhymes, innuendos and slangs that are sure to thrill music lovers everywhere including his budding fan base.
‘I chose Jory and Peter Ram to remix this song since they both have very unique styles and each artiste brings a different flavor to the table,’ said Dutchin, when asked of his reasons for choosing these specific artistes.

The song will be released next week and fans can tune into 98.1 FM or facebook users can log onto Jory’s and Kross Kolor’s individual pages to hear this track.

Jory releases three songs…Mix tape coming soon

After much talk, the Jory ‘Say what I want to say’ mix tape is finally here and will be available from March 23.

However, three of the freestyles have been released and are enjoying major air play on radio, especially among local Deejays on 98.1 FM.

The tracks released to date are ‘Nah, nah, nah’, ‘Take no chance and press it.

His manager, Kerwin Bollers, said these tracks will be among the 19 on the mixed tape when ‘Say what I want to say’ is released.  The songs were recorded at the Kross Kolor studios and at Vizion sounds.

“These songs are wild and entertaining with some really great mixed vibes that will make you think even while you rock to the real vibes,” Bollers assures.

This is the first mixed tape that will be released by the firefighter who is popular for the signature ‘Ah de real thing.’

The album promises to offer another side to the talented sing-jay lyrically.

He spends most of his days fighting fires but one can but imagine the imagery created that sees the Sophia kid who knows how to hype up any party scene in or out doors spitting lyrical fire. Jory recently joined forces with entertainer Kerwin Bollers of Hits and Jams and is already reaping the benefits having performed as one of the opening acts for Trinidad soca sensation Machel Montano as well as two shows for Jamaican artiste Konshens in Georgetown, Berbice and Linden.

Reports are arrangements are being made to have the artiste ship out to Jamaica before year end to entertain and possibly hit the studios there.

Jory’s mix tape will feature free-styling on some of the hottest dancehall, hip hop, reggae and pop tracks that showcase his singer/ entertainer abilities as he addresses life and reality.

The recordings were done with insight from entertainer Bollers who has to some degree taken on Jory’s management. Jory sees the new found collation as an arrangement that would better his chances of becoming a more marketable artiste while taking local entertainment to the next level.

The 26-year-old is a professional fireman and says he has already completed all of the songs for the free style tape and is again reiterating the need for persons to buy the original versions.

He has performed at almost every major venue in Guyana to rave reviews and several years ago as part of Natural Black’s birthday celebrations, he also sang in Jamaica as a member of the Brutal Jammers band to celebratory applauses.
Some of Jory’s past hits include Jory, last bad boy, Rape and of recent Mr. Limpy followed by the contagious ‘Limpy Dip’ that introduces a new dance style.

Jory Completes photo shoot for album

Jory‘Ah de real thing’ may soon be ringing out on radio in dance halls and homes nationwide as Jory gears to release his first mix-tape at the Mash weekend. His adviser, Kerwin Bollers, of Hits and Jams, said that the quiet but talented sing-jay will give another side of his persona lyrically and through some professionally snapped photos out of the Aubrey Photo Studios.

This publication has happened upon some of the unedited versions of the photographs and we hasten to say that it borders on gruesome as it depicts the reality that Guyanese musicians are forced to endure.

He spends most of his days fighting fires but one can but imagine the imagery created that sees him spiting lyrical fire by the Sophia kid who knows how to hype up any party scene in or out doors.

Taking his career to another level Jory recently joined forces with entertainer Kerwin Bollers and his fans can look out for the release of his first mixed tape.

Jory said, “My tape will feature me free-styling on some of the hottest dancehall, hip hop, reggae and pop tracks that showcase Jory the singer/ entertainer singing about life and reality”.

Titled ‘Say what me want fuh Say’ the recordings were done with insight from entertainer Kerwin Bollers who has to some degree taken on Jory’s management.

“This is part of an arrangement we made to better my chances of becoming a more marketable artiste while taking local entertainment to the next level,” Jory said.

Jory Hector, 26, is a professional fireman. He says that he has already completed all of the songs for the free style tape and is again reiterating the need for persons to buy the original versions. “Its mainly a free style mixed tape where I don’t sit and write I just let the lyrics flow sharing my thoughts on real life stories that basically say what I want to say,” Jory said.

Being a Guyanese artiste with big dreams to one day make the big time, this release to him, will hopefully be his breakthrough to the main stream of the Caribbean music scene.

Jory’s  most recent live performance  saw him   getting  even more forward than Jamaican sensations, Charlie Black and  Mad Dog, at the National Park as part of the   Hits and Jams Mash Crank Up show.

On Christmas night 2009 he performed at the National Stadium as the main opening act for Busy Signal and created quite the hype that by far out weighted any response received by local acts at an international show.

Carifesta X Mega Concert

Amid rumors that the main performing artiste would not be able to make an appearance, the much anticipated Polar Carifesta X Mega Concert got underway. This concert was promoted in the media, even prior to the start of CARIFESTA, as being the biggest concert to hit Guyana. There were also assurances made that an international artiste would be performing live. Though the concert was not as big as the promoters may have wanted it to be they were still able to live up to their promise and bring an international artiste. The length of time it took for the artiste to arrive however caused patrons to become frustrated and even angry.

The evening started out with some smooth juggling from the fusion family to get the crowd going. This was happening while the crowd was now building up. The rumors started when admission to the venue no longer required tickets. This caused may persons to wonder if Akon was still slated to perform or whether the promoters had duped them into buying large quantities of beer.

The live performances were kicked off by the Brutal Jammers band followed by the man with the Sophia story Ilaman. Gialiani was to follow with his hip hop styled performance. The Polar Ladies were to grace the stage with their presence, showcasing their polar outfits to the appreciative men in attendance.

The next string of performances was well received and consisted the likes of Jory and Celeste David. Giants of the Guyanese music industry First Born took to the stage and hyped the crowd with their 45 min performance. Every song selected by the group to perform was well received. This was not hard to imagine with hits such as “irits”, “headlines” and a much loved classic First Born track “how are we gonna survive”.

It was at this point in time the frustration stepped in and delay tactics were employed by the promoters. DJ green dongs of fusion audio did some more juggling, at this point it was already 01:30 hrs and there was no sign of the main guest artiste. Brutal jammers band took to the stage once again but this time frustration had turned to anger and bottles and cans of beer were sent flying from the crowd onto the stage. This prompted DJ Kerwin of Hits and Jams to come on stage in an effort to ease the tension building up in the crowd. He gave the crowd assurance that the artiste was in the country and would be making an appearance. He also stated that the president had given the promoters of the event an extension on the permit so as to allow the party to go until sunrise.

At approximately 03:05 hrs international recording artiste Akon took to the stage at the National Stadium Providence much to the delight of his loyal fans who stayed through the night to witness his performance. The 3am crowd that greeted the artiste was a fraction of the crowd that had gathered earlier in the evening, but he performed as if the place was packed to capacity. Those who persevered to witness his performance were not disappointed. He even went the extra mile of requesting the crowd to build a “unity bridge” for him to get from the main stage to a platform about 15 feet away. The aim was for the crowd to carry him across and take him back. This he did successfully despite some instances where he had to urge some members of the crowd not to pull him. Notwithstanding his previous experience in Guyana it was a courageous act on his part but much appreciated by his fans.

Despite the long wait and rumors fans were rewarded with a full hour’s performance by the artiste. Though there were dramatic segments during the event it would be fair to say the event was a success.
