Jamaican Dancehall Kings RDX to Invade National Park

A night of high energy entertainment action is promised to dancehall music and dance loving fans who head to the National Park on Saturday for King Scorpion sound’s  ‘Back way’ show.

Through sponsorship from corporate citizen Banks DIH the show according to promoter Wolly will feature the RDX crew out of Jamaica performing live.

As prelude,  the curtain raisers will feature a dance competition showcasing some of the nation’s hottest street style dance groups including X-Factor, Famous Pose and Diamond Squad among others. Other dance groups interested in competing can contact Wolly on Tele: 666-9800.

The winning dance group takes home the Banks Power Stout Trophy and $100,000 cash.

King Scorpion Sounds arguably ranked as one of the nation’s best promotions/entertainment groups on the local shores may best be remembered for recent promotions that featured artistes the likes of Tony Matterhorn and Vegas as well as the Canadian Invasion.

“We are doing what we can to   add to the development of eth entertainment industry because we believe that entertainment is a great way to get away from all the many stresses that life throws at us sometimes. It’s also good therapy and we do not fore see any issues of violence and crime at eth show or as a result of the show,” Promoter Wolly assures.

The show according to Wolly, starts at 9:00PM Sharp t and will offer total entertainment for dance hall lovers.

The artiste are bringing an international dancer and will offer a full energy show so come prepared for  a night of full, high energy.

Who is RDX (BIO)

There’s no questioning the immense talent of the duo RDX. Since January 2007, the high-energy performing duo has worked up a storm among teenagers and young adults, introducing dance routines in a song, and dance moves in the dancehall.

Renegade X and Delomar X, who comprise dancehall/reggae duo RDX, are pursuing their dream and have successfully taken their brand of music to the ears and hearts of fans locally. They are working assiduously to positively impact the international market in similar fashion.

RDX brings their explosive style of music to the dancehall game. Carlton Williams (Renegade X) and André Bedward (Delomar X) were formerly known as Xsytment and delivered hot songs like 2 Tha Haters,BumBum and I Don’t Trust You. Xsytment made quite a name within the dancehall circles, having the song I Don’t Trust You topping the charts in the Bahamas and peaking at number 17 on the UK’s Echoes charts in 2004.

Internal differences caused the group to downsize from a trio to a duo, and since then they have released singles such the hilarious Khaki on the Fresh Ear label and Friday, a major hit in Japan and parts of Europe.

Renegade X, the deejay of the duo is also an established beat-maker, creating hit tracks such as the Chrome rhythm for South Block/VP Records, which bore chart-toppers like In Her Heart by Capleton and Jiggy by Elephant Man.

Renegade’s catalogue also includes the ‘Dutty Landlord’ ‘Summer Bounce’ rhythms, the latter of which featured a hit of the same name by Elephant Man.

After taking themselves out of the limelight for a few months and reassessing their strategy, Xsytment decided that the next step forward was to reinvent themselves with all the perks; a new sound, new image and a new perspective. Thus, RDX was born.

The change immediately had a positive impact, with the release of hot new songs such as Four Q and Cartoon, Renegade X kept his drum machine thumping, and created another popular rhythm called the ‘Jumpoff riddim’. Again, another hit single was brought to the fore by popular dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel entitled Realest Thing. Renegade then created Stamma and Stain with Beenie Man’s hit Swing it Wey, before taking another break.

RDX took time out then to concentrate on promoting themselves in the streets before returning once again to the studios to produce Bling Dawg’s hit song Roll upand Dance on the very energetic ‘Bembe rhythm’ for their current Apt. 19 label. The uptempo song created a frenzy within the dancehall and just about everywhere else dancehall music is played.

Always in the streets, RDX became a household name campaigning and promoting themselves in rural parishes and by visiting inner-city communities daily to interact with community members and dancers alike.

Timeka Marshall’s Hush premiere’s on HYPE TV this Tuesday

Fast rising reggae r&b talent Timeka Marshall is set to premier the video for her single Hush on Jamaican-based cable station Hype TV come Tuesday, April 21.

“My goodness, I’m so excited about it,” the young songstress said.

The song will be premiered on the cable station’s live broadcast show, Up and Live.

“I feel the song is very relatable, and I think its smoothing everyone can make a connection to. If they haven’t yet, then certainly at some point in the future, they’ll be able to”, she continued.

Hush, which is on the Shane Brown produced Indiscretion riddim, is a sweet-sounding escape into R&B – of course with some Caribbean flavour – and is filled with of loving lyrics has the Guyanese-born bombshell pouring her heart out.

“The riddim is doing really well, and the song has been getting some love from the radio, and Hype TV is making their viewers anxious about the premiere, so it’s all good!”

Timeka says one thing she was really impressed with, was the way in which her song, and Secrets, another song by Peter Morgan of Morgan Heritage which is featured on the same riddim, was mixed together so the two artistes could do a joint video.

“We didn’t even know about each other’s song, and it’s really uncanny that the two songs are talking about the same thing. Crazy props to Shane Brown and Peter for spotting it and making the joint video happen,” Timeka said.

“Everyone needs to tune in to Hype TV, the right type TV on Tuesday April 21 for the premiere of the video, because that’s the only place to catch the first showing of it!

Da’Ville clocks his eighth number song single with Missing You Right Now

DavilleThe romantic ballad Missing You Right Now has become the eighth number one single for singer Da’Ville.  The track has taken over pole position on several reggae charts in Jamaica and overseas.

‘I’m really pleased at the kind of reception that the song has gotten and I thank the fans for their support over the years’, said Da’Ville.

Missing You Right Now is number one on the Shanty Vibes Reggae Chart in St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Richie B Hit List Countdown; and RETV Reggae Chart.  The song is number twenty three on the Digicel Caribbean Hot 30 Countdown; and number two on the New York Reggae chart.

The video clip for Missing You Right Now which was directed by Stafford Ashani and Ras Asha, debuted at number three on the RETV MVP Video countdown.

Taken from his recently released album Ichiban, Missing You Right Now follows closely on the heels of Da’Ville’s previous number one hit Yesterday.  His previous number one singles were Missing You and Storm (both of which he sang lead vocals on for the group ARP), In Heaven, Can’t Get Over You, On My Mind and This Time I Promise.

Additionally, another Da’Ville track Never Gonna Cry peaked at the number three spot on the Media Guide Reggae Specialty chart in the US. The song is currently number five.

The main performers and guest artistes on the RETV High School Tour, reinforced the Abstinence Mek Sense theme to the students at Mona High recently.

The tour which was in its third week also saw Matthew Mothersill from the Ministry of Education giving an interesting presentation about abstinence with the use of current rhythms and jargons.

As has become the norm, the students screamed and cheered for their favourite performers, especially when they came a little too close to the crowd.

Laden had to literally bolt faster than Usain Bolt to avoid a group of female students who were bent on breaking down the barriers to the stage, to touch him. As he belted Time to Shine and I’m Sorry, the crowd roared.

Macka Diamond, Ras Penco, Spryng I and Ras Shiloh, Stacious and Busy Signal were the guest performers, and each earned their share of applause from the students with their latest radio hits.

Ce’Cile was in good form as the students screamed her name and took over choir duties on I’m Waiting, while Alaine, D’Angel, dancer Mystic, Terro 3000, Chino, Tifa, Natalie Storm, and Konshens were all in fine form, delivering songs from their respective catalogues.

The Vibes Master Jerry D kept the students busy with various talent exhibitions from their fellow school mates.

The current season of the RETV School Tour is expected to climax on April 28. Be on the lookout because it could be coming to your school!

All Fools Slam Day Poetry Competition

Creativity, originality and flow were definitely the order of the night as Xpress Yoself Gy held its monthly poetry event last evening at the Upscale Restaurant.

The event last night was dubbed the ALL FOOLS SLAM COMPETITION; a poetry slam is a faceoff between competitors to see who has more creativity than whom and who can get the judges to accept their content. These competitors recite their own original work or rarely that of others.

Competing were Lady Hilda, Jermaine Figueira, Rochelle Christi, Raul Williams, and Darren Henry. They were three rounds of competition, with each competitor having three minutes to perform his/ her piece. They were being judged on their content/ lyrics, performance and audience response.

The competitors were expected to entice the packed restaurant with either Dub poetry(a rhythmic and politicized genre belonging to black and particularly West Indian culture )or Spoken word (is a form of literary art or artistic performance in which lyrics, poetry, or stories are spoken rather than sung), the latter was chosen by most. The competition resembled that of DEF JAMs poetry slam competition.

Those who missed the event missed a great time, the poets were amazing in their delivery, the competitors used poetry to express themselves and matters of importance to them. Rochelle Christi was a crowd favourite from her first performance and she never left the crowd down once, so her win was no surprise. She was awarded with $20,000. Coming in second was Darren Henry who received $10,000 and third was Lady Hilda, who was a little older than most of the competitors but had her way with the crowd, she received $5000.

Xpress Yoself Gy is an avenue for persons to express themselves through poetry, song, dance, and the visual arts. Headed by Yaphet Jackman and Asafa George, Xpress Yoself Gy is a place where people can come and feel comfortable about expressing their views about their country and issues affecting their lives.  Yaphet Jackman described Xpress Yoself Gy as “a hub for creative people”.  Yaphet is also the head of Blue Bucket Entertainment Gy an entertainment service provider which focuses on culture, youth expression and social and business events.

Apart from the competition, there was dancing and an open mic segment. Dances were done by the Nzinga Dance Group out of African Cultural and Delvelopment Association and the open mic segment allowed people from the audience who wished to share their poetry to do so.

The host for the evening was Kojo McPherson, and the judges were randomly chosen from the audience. Another interesting feature to the evening was the sketch artist, Shimuel Jones, who sat at the judges table and sketched the competitors as they delivered. The sketches will be arranged into a collage and placed in Upscale Restaurant and will be used as a reminder of the beginnings of Xpress Yoself Gy.

The next Xpress Yoself Gy activity will be held on the 6th May, 2009 so do come out and support, if you are an aspiring poet or someone who loves to use poetry to express yourself and you have pieces you will like to share feel free to come out and join the fun every first Wednesday of every month at the Upscale Restaurant. The event is usually a Blast and it does not disappoint.

‘Best of both worlds’ ready for April 11

Tarrus Riley, Freddy McGregor, Duane Stephenson headed Guyana’s way

Reggae/dancehall stars Tarrus Riley, Duane Stephens and Freddy McGregor as well as the promoters are all promising a memorable nigh for music lovers where reggae and some lover’s rock vibes will be the order of the night but mostly on life’s conscious side.

They are scheduled to arrive on Thursday April 9, to take to the National Park Stage on April 11 with Reggae Vibes offerings from the best of both worlds.

The artistes who are scheduled to arrive on Thursday night from Jamaica are promising much for patrons.

As opposed to some artiste who berate and belittle women Taurus holds high respect for women and the very conscious, humble and self assertive Tarrus Riley is guaranteed to offer his fans a live show that’s sound as good as the recorded music.

In his first visit to the local shores patrons are guaranteed 110 percent on stage and aside from ‘she’s Royal as promotions CEO Roxanne Williams says “he has loads of love for the ladies and life itself.”

She also noted that Tarrus is the kind of artist that you can give your full support and love because his music is about unity.

With all the artistes guaranteed to arrive on the local shores on April 9 Williams says all is set “this is our first show at this level and much more can be expected in the future.”

She also said “We are doing this show for the people of Guyana because we believe Guyanese deserve to experience the international acts live on stage while adding our bit to develop the entertainment industry.”

Williams said too that tickets are still available at the unbelievably low cost of $2000 while VIP tickets costs $10,000.

The night’s emcees are radio personality Malcolm Ferreira and Mondale Smith while local entertainment would include Jessica Xavier who will be launching her debut video/single: ‘Don’t cry.’ Added entertainment will come from Lion Heart Sounds.

The Guyanese Dream Part 1: SHASHA

During my spare time I decided to do something uplifting and inspirational. More so, I was given the idea by observing American media coverage of the first Afro – American president and them saying that he is the “American Dream”. So it dawned upon me, why not coin a local piece of that encouraging concept for the readers of the GuyanaLive.com blog? Eventually I pondered some more and determined that my first article will be on one of my friends who I happen to admire for all the hard work that she has done and is currently doing, therefore I present to you, Ms. Keisha Edwards and SHASHA.

Now before I venture into explaining the wonders and works of SHASHA grant me the privilege of enlightening you a bit about Ms. Edwards. Born on September 8, Keisha Tonicia Edwards is one of eight siblings (having just one brother) to a Civil Engineer and a Seamstress/Homemaker. Both her parents are still alive and are happily married. She attended St. Joseph’s High School and made good grades which were exemplified at her CXC examinations, where she obtained seven passes with one distinction in English Language. After successfully finishing secondary school she had her hopes set on completing the Bachelor’s Degree of Law at the University of Guyana, since she thought this was a good avenue being the captain of her alma mater’s debate team and things of that sort. She however pursued a Diploma in Social Work and after graduating made some life changes. Despite her ability to weld metals or make concrete blocks she turned to fashion, more specifically, fashion designing.

She started with small personal projects where she made outfits solely for her partying rendezvous and other outings. At this point you would imagine that she received rave reviews about her attire and countless words of encouragement to make it a professional activity and subsequent to dire contemplation, due to other pressing objectives in her life she decided to take on the task at hand. When I sat to have a chat with Ms. Edwards my very first question on this topic was “why fashion?” and her response was, ”My mother is a seamstress and I have an eternal love for clothes and colors. I like to wear what I want and it feels great to wear what you make because only you can know what you feel good wearing.” Her fashion concept is a fusion of modern rock, traditional wear and Caribbean flavour. She adores sexy and eye popping pieces but also knows how to create conservative and formal bits. Keisha describes her fashion concept as timeless with no boundaries and says that every piece is done from heart, soul and her passion because that is the way she thinks life is best lived. This Sociology student says her pieces are a direct illustration of her personality, moods and many emotions. This very professional fashion designer and entrepreneur never ever mix business with pleasure and prefer to meet every client and converse with them so as to get some insight about their personality and their different choices of style and comfort. This allows her to make exceptional pieces that each individual client is pleased to wear time and time again. As far as unique style extends the name SHASHA is derived from a combination of parts of two names. The last three letters of Keisha and the same of her close friend’s Aleysha Persaud. Aleysha’s presence is paramount because Ms. Edwards divulged that her close friend assist her in more ways than one. For instance, I had a grand opportunity to witness a photo shoot, compliments of Stabroek News, showcasing the designer’s Mashramani collection labeled “Jamrock”. This compilation comprises of a provocative and colorful taste which steals the shades of the sunset, flora and of the nation’s flag and gives it an exclusive edge.

When asked about her campaigns for the future she said that plans to chase this fashion venture relentlessly but if, God forbids, it somehow flops she still wants to give law a fervent try or anything else that sways her way. Still as simple as the sky, this fashion enthusiast’s idea of a perfect day is just spending time with family over a good meal and intriguing conversation. She, like most focused people, hates lies and rumors and persons who waste good opportunities and precious time but is madly in love with her family and friends and that special guy who is very supportive of her endeavors. Reading and being loyal are also effects that are held dearly and, as comical as this sounds, “hates chowmein and corned beef with a passion.” Is marriage and kids in the near future? ‘Most certainly’ is her position but not anytime too soon due to her many obligations. This young lady’s advice to anyone who wants to make something of themselves from nothing is, “don’t let anyone tell you [you] can’t do it!”

After reading this little article about Ms. Keisha Edwards and SHASHA Designs, you may still be wondering why she was handpicked for the Guyanese Dream editorial, well she is the textbook definition of persistence and poise that was made from the ashes of a fast teenage life and a slightly confused young adulthood. Fully Loaded Entertainment – The New Era

It’s the moment GT has been waiting for, the New Era in entertainment is here and we have a fun packed year with phenomenal parties, high investment sport events and mega concerts for guess who??? You Guyana!!

We are merely in this for the fun and the satisfaction of seeing Guyanese at home and abroad come together despite our differences and mishaps. We know what GT people want, and that’s what we are bringing to the table in 09 with everyone’s pocket in mind.

Also, the Fully Loaded Sound System with talented and versatile DJ Renik will be available to the public soon taking over airways and parties taking music and technology in GT to another level.

Our first of many events is the biggest concept party in GT set for Saturday 14th February, 2009, Valentine’s Day at Club Sky7. A party called “All My Single Ladies”. Free Drinks All Night for the crew with the most “Single Ladies”. Muziq will be provided by the popular Stereo Sonics, Firekid Steenie out of Canada , Fully Loaded Sound and a surprise guest DJ. So ladies, even if you’re not single put on your dancing shoes and tell your man where we going on Valentine’s Night.

Also, Fully Loaded Entertainment will start the Mash early with the “Mash Soca Fever Party ” at Club Sky7 on Friday 20th February, 2009. setting the tone and putting you in that festive mood for Mash Day. So come out with your rags, your flags and your dancing shoes “cuz we nahh going home till we see the sun”.

A bold new future in entertainment in GT begins now; no one should be left behind. These are definitely not events to miss.

Soca Jeans Party

It’s the talk around town that the Tempa: Soca Jeans Party can be deemed one of the hottest and craziest parties ever. Hits and Jams did it again, this time to their fullest potential. Persons were and still are talking about the party. The juggling was considered one of the best , props to Kerwin. It was SeLL OFF … NO LIE. People are still so hype they cant wait for Valentine’s Day and the ‘Colour Party’.

But…there must be a but. Out of curiosity’s why isn’t the bar stocked with BANKS products? And more of a safety concern, since it is well established that Hits and Jams throws the wildest parties and EVERYONE will want to attend and Everest is not BIG enough for the crowd why not keep the party outside providing it doesn’t rain or limit the number of people on each floor. Because my gosh, two more persons entering the top on Saturday night and the floor would have caved in. Just some food for thought.

All in all, Hit n Jams on fyah for 2009. Looking forward to bigger and better things. 😀

WildFire Production plans on keeping a VIP Party for 2009 and would like to know how the public feels about paying $20,000 ($100 USD) to be 1 of 800 invited guests.
