Jory releases three songs…Mix tape coming soon

After much talk, the Jory ‘Say what I want to say’ mix tape is finally here and will be available from March 23.

However, three of the freestyles have been released and are enjoying major air play on radio, especially among local Deejays on 98.1 FM.

The tracks released to date are ‘Nah, nah, nah’, ‘Take no chance and press it.

His manager, Kerwin Bollers, said these tracks will be among the 19 on the mixed tape when ‘Say what I want to say’ is released.  The songs were recorded at the Kross Kolor studios and at Vizion sounds.

“These songs are wild and entertaining with some really great mixed vibes that will make you think even while you rock to the real vibes,” Bollers assures.

This is the first mixed tape that will be released by the firefighter who is popular for the signature ‘Ah de real thing.’

The album promises to offer another side to the talented sing-jay lyrically.

He spends most of his days fighting fires but one can but imagine the imagery created that sees the Sophia kid who knows how to hype up any party scene in or out doors spitting lyrical fire. Jory recently joined forces with entertainer Kerwin Bollers of Hits and Jams and is already reaping the benefits having performed as one of the opening acts for Trinidad soca sensation Machel Montano as well as two shows for Jamaican artiste Konshens in Georgetown, Berbice and Linden.

Reports are arrangements are being made to have the artiste ship out to Jamaica before year end to entertain and possibly hit the studios there.

Jory’s mix tape will feature free-styling on some of the hottest dancehall, hip hop, reggae and pop tracks that showcase his singer/ entertainer abilities as he addresses life and reality.

The recordings were done with insight from entertainer Bollers who has to some degree taken on Jory’s management. Jory sees the new found collation as an arrangement that would better his chances of becoming a more marketable artiste while taking local entertainment to the next level.

The 26-year-old is a professional fireman and says he has already completed all of the songs for the free style tape and is again reiterating the need for persons to buy the original versions.

He has performed at almost every major venue in Guyana to rave reviews and several years ago as part of Natural Black’s birthday celebrations, he also sang in Jamaica as a member of the Brutal Jammers band to celebratory applauses.
Some of Jory’s past hits include Jory, last bad boy, Rape and of recent Mr. Limpy followed by the contagious ‘Limpy Dip’ that introduces a new dance style.

Jamzone 2010 goes International for 10th Anniversary

Jamzone will mark it 10th anniversary in 2010 and we have planned a series of activities to celebrate those successful years of adding to the development of the local tourism sector.

As a prelude to the August Jamzone Anniversary we have a calendar of activities to celebrate with our fans and committed supporters.

For our 10th year we the Hits and jams entertainment group will be upping our game yet again in the interest of promoting tourism in Guyana. As such for 2010 our event will feature delegates from Latin America and the Caribbean competing against a Guyanese beauty ambassador for the coveted Miss Jamzone title. The

“We plan to have eliminations to select Guyana’s representative to the pageant” said Kerwin Bollers. Preliminaries will be held in all participating countries. The prizes will amount to US 15,000 including US$13,000 cash.

As was done this year the event will continue to be dubbed ‘Jamzone Summer Break Weekend’ and will feature four nights of super concerts, beach parties and one fantasy pageant. Planning is on going. “The queen takes home a Motor car or US $10,000”, Bollers said.  More details as plans progress.

Hits and Jams gets Tourism award

“This is both a privilege and an honour to us as a young group and it will certainly serve as a motivator to us. We hope other entertainment providers will be motivated to up their game to make Guyana a Tourism/Entertainment hub.”

These were the words of Hits and Jams Director Kerwin Bollers after he joined his brother Dwight, and good friend Kerwin Bollers, to receive the award for “Mega Entertainment Promoters” at this year’s Tourism Awards ceremony.

The event was held recently at the Guyana International Conference Centre.

The group is high in praise for corporate Guyana and the thousands of local fans who believe in their ventures and continually support them.

“Like every other group we started promoting to make money and even when we did not make any we were heartened that the people were happy and satisfied from the heart.

“We promoted then for everyone and will continue to offer entertainment and tourism attractions and opportunities to develop the entertainment industry for everyone and at the same time show that there is more to Guyana than negativity,” said Rawle Fergusson.

Remaining humble, the group said years ago “if we were told that we would be receiving a Guyana Tourism Ministry award we would have laugh but here we are and are even more motivated with this recognition.”

Over the years aside from promoting  international stage shows featuring the crème de la crème of international acts they have also  served as brokers for many other promoters to access  international artistes.  Further the group is also the lone promotions outfit that manages a television station that provides 24 hours of local and international entertainment.

Hits and Jams has also produced and maintained probably the most lucrative and largest mass-based supported tourism event – the Jamzone Summer Break Weekend and the Miss Jamzone pageant.

The rationale behind the award is that Hits and James group from a private perspective has organized and promoted mega events locally at levels that are yet to be paralleled by any other local promotions group.

Tourism Ministry officials recognise Hits and Jams as being the most innovative and creative international/local organizers who continue to churn out international events on the local shores.

Car and Bike: from the sleek to the ridiculous

The Ninth Annual Hits and Jam (HJ) Car and Bike show proved to be a spectacle as participants turned out in moderate number for the yearly event held at the Everest Cricket ground.

Most vehicles were more or less similar to those of last year with huge sound systems, a number of flat screen TVs and spinning rims; same trends, different year. Some cars however took the cake and went overboard when their owners decided to put odd twists to their outrageous vehicles.

One in particular, PEE 1820, chose to place his sound system above the engine of his car, in front of the windscreen. The layers upon layers of speakers of varying sizes totally blocked the view of the driver, who had to be assisted onto the stage at the show.

However onto results.

After being crowned Car Show King, PLL 2679 drove away with the second place prizes in the categories of Best Car and Cleanest Car.

First places for the Best Car and Cleanest Car categories went to PKK 1262. The Best Antique Car and Cleanest Antique Car first place prizes went P 6834, while CF 2152 took second place in the Best Antique Car category.

A yellow SSR Chevrolet was given first place for the Super Car or SUV category, while first place for Best SUV went to PKK 9891 and second place to GKK 2220 won second place for Cleanest SUV, the only prizes for the three vehicles. PKK 7183 won second place in the Best SUV category, but copped first prize in the category for Cleanest SUV.

CF 3371 was a clear favorite as it took away all the first place prizes in the Best Antique Bike, Best Bike, Cleanest Bike and Cleanest Antique Bike categories, while CF 2152 came second in each of the Best Bike, Cleanest Bike and Cleanest Antique Bike categories.

Sunday is Car and Bike show day

After almost a month’s delay to facilitate auto shops, all is set for a most memorable showcase of Cars, SUVs and Bikes at the Everest ground on Sunday.

Entertainer Kerwin Bollers of the Hits and Jams group is reporting that all is set for what could well become the most mega auto fair and showcase on the local shores.

All told, the seventh annual event will feature cars, bikes and SUVs competing in various categories for tangible prizes as well as bragging rights and trophies.

With two additions, the categories include Cleanest Car and Bike, Best Car, SUV and Bike, Best Antique Car and Bike, Cleanest Sounding Car and SUV, Loudest Car and SUV, Super Car or SUV, and Car Show King and for good measure, there are also prizes for Best Graphic Designer and a CBR burnout clash.

The king walks away with a giant size trophy and other prizes as well as one year of bragging rights.

The show that was carded for last month was postponed according to Entertainer Bollers following requests from some of the contenders of the event. He had earlier:”The body workshops owners asked us to hold because they need some more time to import supplies to dazzle and surprise fans.”  Bollers reiterated that his team remains committed to providing the best quality events to help develop the local entertainment offerings.

The family event takes the format of a fair and will also feature booths in which automobile parts and accessories providers and sellers and well as automobile owners will showcase their toys. The show is sponsored by GT&T and Banks Power Stout and HJ-TV 72.

Jamzone Summer Break Soca show lives up to the hype – Machel ‘sell off’

A soca therapy session administered by ‘Dr. Machel Montano’ and his High Definition band at the stadium on Saturday night, has certainly erased any doubt that he loves Guyana as a performing stage.

There was hardly a person with dry clothing on Sunday morning when “the one time” too young to soca artiste concluded his performance at the Jamzone Summer Break Weekend. This came after several years of shows void of the artiste.

Some commendable Guyanese acts raised the curtain with a mixed bag of music ranging from dance hall, to hip hop, to Soca that reached crescendo with Guyana’s rubber waist Jomo Primo dishing out some of X2 hot hits including the energetic  ‘crazy’ soca song.

During his performance Jomo proved why he’s among the few Guyanese acts with mad international entertainment abilities with a bias mainly for the ladies. He caused mad frenzy vocally and with his every gyration and instruction they screamed in wild abandon.

By the end of his steamy high energy performance he was topless and dripping and so were some of the local fans.  But this was a set up for the show stopper of the night: Machel Montano.

The mere mention of his name sent a contagious fever that saw the already packed VIP area being invaded by Machel crazy fans who simply wanted to come closer.

It couldn’t have been something in the drinks because the variety represented every beverage company on the local shores and they were all well supported. And it certainly could not have been the temperature in the Providence stadium because that location is an open air venue.

Machel with help from Patrice Roberts, Farmer Nappy and one other artiste caused a soca tornado that caused even those with inhibitions to lose their selves.

They dished out hit after hit and his dancers added to the party mood too. The crowd numbering in the tens of thousands certainly had a good time void of any incidents. Some people saw it fit to steal wine here and there without rejection in most cases.

Then came the ‘toro toro’ charge that heated up the stadium. “A grade, A grade and A grade” is the verdict from the tens of thousands of Guyanese who flocked the Providence stadium for the Inaugural Jamzone Summer Break Weekend soca show.

Guyanese soca lovers have concluded that the long overdue wait for Soca king Machel Montano was certainly made up for on Saturday night into Sunday morning at the national stadium. There was not one person with dry clothing at the end of the inaugural Jamzone Summer Break weekend. Neither were there any notable complaints.

He also made a promise to the fans that if they chanted hard enough he would be back for Mashramani 2010. And they certainly did.
