Five styles that shout “Jamzone Summer Break”

The Shorts

The countdown is on to the much anticipated Jamzone Summerbreak 2011, which commences on August 12 and runs until August 21. Ten days of exciting and spectacular activities that are sure to “TUN UP SUMMER”.

Jamzone Summerbreak evolves every year, so too does fashion, so the ultimate questions are “What’s hot this year?” and /or “What can I wear that will turn heads?” (Both male and female)
This is where I share with you some of the hottest ‘summer’ trends for 2011.

SHORTS are ubiquitous – a-must-have; a -must-wear for ‘summer’. Be bold, be stylish, be colourful, be electrifying, and most of all be sexy!

The Prints

PRINTS – are big this ‘summer’ with floral designs leading the pack. Whether it’s a maxi dress, a skirt or a body hugging number, what’ important is that your print is on point and all eyes are on you. This look screams STYLISH!

Sandals

SANDALS – let’s keep it flat and comfortable; though it’s cool to walk with sandals in your purse when you wear your heels, it’s cuter to just go simple and sexy. Jamzone activities are mostly sporty and causal, so essay are ideal. *wink*

Crop Tops

CROP TOPS – are hot, chic, the latest thing, cool and definitely a ‘summer’ must have. These can be worn with the new trendy trousers pants, pencil skirts, jeggings and shorts. They are also perfect for layering and can be paired with high waist trousers (credit fuda). And if you’re comfortable with showing skin, then this is definitely for you.

Mini Bag

MINI BAGS – where we put our makeup, cell phones, cameras, ‘vex money’ and whatever else we usually put in our handbags. They come in all colours and styles. Small yet perfect for any event.

Accessories

These are just five of the HOTS and SHOULD HAVES for Jamzone Summerbreak 2011. Oh and please do not forget your accessories, BOLD and DARING are the looks for Jamzone 2011.

This year is going to be huge; there is the inclusion of the T20 Master’s Cup (hot and talented cricketers will be on show); then International recording artistes Trey Songz and E-V-E live for the International Night; followed by the World Boss and Gully God on one stage, one night; then of course there is the Miss Jamzone International Pageant and all the activities leading up to that and finally the Beach Jam.
I’m set and ready and I hope with these cool ideas you will be too. JZSB11, Let’s Go!!!!!!!

The Guyanese Dream Part 1: SHASHA

During my spare time I decided to do something uplifting and inspirational. More so, I was given the idea by observing American media coverage of the first Afro – American president and them saying that he is the “American Dream”. So it dawned upon me, why not coin a local piece of that encouraging concept for the readers of the GuyanaLive.com blog? Eventually I pondered some more and determined that my first article will be on one of my friends who I happen to admire for all the hard work that she has done and is currently doing, therefore I present to you, Ms. Keisha Edwards and SHASHA.

Now before I venture into explaining the wonders and works of SHASHA grant me the privilege of enlightening you a bit about Ms. Edwards. Born on September 8, Keisha Tonicia Edwards is one of eight siblings (having just one brother) to a Civil Engineer and a Seamstress/Homemaker. Both her parents are still alive and are happily married. She attended St. Joseph’s High School and made good grades which were exemplified at her CXC examinations, where she obtained seven passes with one distinction in English Language. After successfully finishing secondary school she had her hopes set on completing the Bachelor’s Degree of Law at the University of Guyana, since she thought this was a good avenue being the captain of her alma mater’s debate team and things of that sort. She however pursued a Diploma in Social Work and after graduating made some life changes. Despite her ability to weld metals or make concrete blocks she turned to fashion, more specifically, fashion designing.

She started with small personal projects where she made outfits solely for her partying rendezvous and other outings. At this point you would imagine that she received rave reviews about her attire and countless words of encouragement to make it a professional activity and subsequent to dire contemplation, due to other pressing objectives in her life she decided to take on the task at hand. When I sat to have a chat with Ms. Edwards my very first question on this topic was “why fashion?” and her response was, ”My mother is a seamstress and I have an eternal love for clothes and colors. I like to wear what I want and it feels great to wear what you make because only you can know what you feel good wearing.” Her fashion concept is a fusion of modern rock, traditional wear and Caribbean flavour. She adores sexy and eye popping pieces but also knows how to create conservative and formal bits. Keisha describes her fashion concept as timeless with no boundaries and says that every piece is done from heart, soul and her passion because that is the way she thinks life is best lived. This Sociology student says her pieces are a direct illustration of her personality, moods and many emotions. This very professional fashion designer and entrepreneur never ever mix business with pleasure and prefer to meet every client and converse with them so as to get some insight about their personality and their different choices of style and comfort. This allows her to make exceptional pieces that each individual client is pleased to wear time and time again. As far as unique style extends the name SHASHA is derived from a combination of parts of two names. The last three letters of Keisha and the same of her close friend’s Aleysha Persaud. Aleysha’s presence is paramount because Ms. Edwards divulged that her close friend assist her in more ways than one. For instance, I had a grand opportunity to witness a photo shoot, compliments of Stabroek News, showcasing the designer’s Mashramani collection labeled “Jamrock”. This compilation comprises of a provocative and colorful taste which steals the shades of the sunset, flora and of the nation’s flag and gives it an exclusive edge.

When asked about her campaigns for the future she said that plans to chase this fashion venture relentlessly but if, God forbids, it somehow flops she still wants to give law a fervent try or anything else that sways her way. Still as simple as the sky, this fashion enthusiast’s idea of a perfect day is just spending time with family over a good meal and intriguing conversation. She, like most focused people, hates lies and rumors and persons who waste good opportunities and precious time but is madly in love with her family and friends and that special guy who is very supportive of her endeavors. Reading and being loyal are also effects that are held dearly and, as comical as this sounds, “hates chowmein and corned beef with a passion.” Is marriage and kids in the near future? ‘Most certainly’ is her position but not anytime too soon due to her many obligations. This young lady’s advice to anyone who wants to make something of themselves from nothing is, “don’t let anyone tell you [you] can’t do it!”

After reading this little article about Ms. Keisha Edwards and SHASHA Designs, you may still be wondering why she was handpicked for the Guyanese Dream editorial, well she is the textbook definition of persistence and poise that was made from the ashes of a fast teenage life and a slightly confused young adulthood. However, when (and I say when because she is that good at what she does) you need to contact this young fashion designer about anything work related please do so at [email protected].

Mash in Guyana

Since hearing some nice tunes on the radio a few weeks ago i decided to tune in again this morning. From as early as 9 am nice music from some of our most talented artistes were on the radio. but its not the ones kicking up a storm in the music industry today, but rather some classic mash tunes. yes people the radio is already in mashramani mode. as the different radio shows progressed throughout the day more and more fresh soca music could be heard playing to hype persons for the mashramani celebrations. since the soca competitions are still ongoing i will not say who was my favorite but it must be said that the level of soca music produced over the years have gotten better, while others need some serious help! looking forward to mash 2k9!!!

Attention All!!!

The management team of MusiCentral, Gialiani & Ry, are currently on a search for a new and upcoming female artiste to start working with as soon as possible. The lucky artiste should possess the entire package for the industry. Good educational and social background, talent as well as beauty would be key assets for such an artiste. Songs as well as promotional gimmicks will all be arranged for this artiste. The artiste should be very outgoing and be prepared for a host of promotion & activities during this New Year to launch her career. This artiste will be exposed to collaborations with other international artistes and producers and will also be able to work with popular names in the Caribbean.

Interested persons should seek to contact us at [email protected] and email us a sample or brief history of their musical background, a contact phone number or email address along with a clear photo image of themselves.

Saturday Morning…

Saturday is one of those days i wont usually listen to the radio because by friday i already heard one set of music over an over on the radio. but last saturday was different i was forced to listen to the radio. i was thinkin this was going to be torture but surprisingingly it was refreshing.

Throughout the day fresh tracks from international, caribbean and to my surprise local artists were featured on the various programs broadcast.

It seems like we are taking steps. However small, in the right directing of promoting Guyanese music on the nation’s radio. i do understand that the sponsors of the segments have some leverage over what is played since their dollar must be spent in such a way that audiences hear what is hot and popular. but at the same time local music is being stitched in so as to ensure exposure is given. this must be commended.

progress…

In Da Rain!!!

Baby Cham must be rated among the best in the caribbean musical industry, and when it comes to holding a crowd he is boss! the night was good with dancing and some good juggling. there were also best wishes sent out to DJ Cheddie who is in the hospital following an accident…

Maka come through an did her thing for tha ladies as only she can…then he took to tha stage an set the party on fire! and the thing is he didnt even have to sing any of his new tunes cuz de man got trackx fuh days….the rain came down an ppl went scampering for cover…wat did he do? take off his tee shirt an got into the rain to continue! soon others joined him an da rain an de party was on again! we were even flashed by a woman on stage…thankx cham…..SLINGERZ have done it again!!!!

Why Not More?

Recently i’ve been wondering who selects the music to be played on the radio. Because i have a practical suggestion which may be of interest to them and what i think may also be the key to the development of the local music industry.

Play more local music on the radio. A simple domino effect will take place. People will hear the variety of music made here and a demand will develop for it and since GT muzik cant be downloaded from online there will be only one way of gettin it…we will have to buy the CD’s, generating income for artiests, studios and everyone else in the making of the track.

This is practical because we have almost every genre of music being produced here. We got from oldies an calypso to rap & r&b. Y cant we have more of our own on OUR radio? the majority of people who listen to the radio are working people so when the demand develops it will be them pirchasing the music and it keeps money in our economy.

nothing against international music but they already got the exposure and are making REAL paper we need to develop the talents we have here…im jus asking….y not more???

Fojo strikes back!

I guess being nominated for several awards an gettin none got Fojo angry. So what would did he do? He did wat he does best, make a nice track to let them know how he felt. Heard it on the radio, pretty hard hit back at them. Since I was adainst what happened to ma artiest i say poi!poi!poi! BIG TUNE!!!

Question?

I just saw the Gt&t christmas ad a few moments ago and only saw 4 members of the group, not gonna tell you which four, but if i remember correctly there were 5 of them…..anyways dont wanna create no confusion or divion in the group i was jus curious…..check it out for yourself an tell me wat you think…
