Karma Band Experience Press Release

It’s on at the GCC Ground!

Karma will be performing at the GCC Ground Bourda on the 6th December, what we call the BIGGEST SOCA CHUTNEY PARTY of the year! While it is not a mega concert like we usually do, it will be a soca chutney party to remember. People will definitely enjoy themselves and this will serve as a prelude of what is to come next year with the Karma Band. Even though we had received general reports that it is going to be a rainy season, our sources informed us that we should be good for the 6th December. The “Karma Experience” will be just that on the 6th December at the GCC Ground –  A REAL EXPERIENCE.

It will be the biggest soca chutney party of the year and people can come out to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Karma will be performing for a FULL 2 HOURS and that is why the show is named the Karma Experience, so people will get to enjoy everything from Soca, chutney, Hindi remixes, dancehall and hip hop. As everyone knows Wildfire Productions creates some mega shows whenever we do concerts, so for us this here is how we would do a party style event.

The heart throb Ravi B (as many of our female affiliates refer to him) will be in full gear with his energetic performances while his sexy sister (as we the men see her!) Nisha B will be ready to tear it up again. Guyana can expect a great party to start the Christmas off. Tickets will only be sold at the venue and will be only $1,500 VAT inclusive. Karma Band was here in July for our Wild Fire Fest 2k8 in July in which they were the highlight of the show and the talk of the town after it. We would like to say thanks to Caribbean Airlines who partnered with us and all of our sponsors who have helped us along the way.

I’m Ok Concert

Destra GarciaEven as the day draws closer to the staging of the Conscious Minds Promotions concert  at the National Stadium  Corporate citizens Banks DIH through its Guinness and Banks Beer brands as well a Digicel has thrown their sponsorship weight behind the Christmas Gift to ensure that entertainment seekers on the local shores have a “Merry Christmas” at an affordable cost of $1000.  Public Relations Officer to the event Mondale Smith said that Beenie Man will not only be entertaining the masses with his high energy style for this event along with Future Fambo and Richie Loops. ” We have added a soca component that  caters to soca lovers to the cards and  that high energy will come from Trinidadian Soca Queen Destra Garcia live on stage. Smith said that both artistes are “coming with their bands and admonished that it’s now a ‘Dance Hall King Beenie Man meets Soca Queen Destra concert.”

He said that more details will be made available about the concert but informed  that plans are accelerating  even as sponsors are responding very favorable to the promotion.

Over the years we’ve seen the likes of many international shows brought to Guyana by various promoters but only few have been able to attract thousands to venues such as the National Park and The National Stadium. Those shows include events promoted by local businessman Lennox Lewis and included the ‘November to Remember’ in 2008 which featured Vybes Kartel and the Portmore Empire, Erup, Konshens, Bugle, Future Fambo, Spice and De Angel.   Prior he had staged a Pre-Easter Bashment that featured Busy Signal, Demarco, Tony Curtis and Daville. In 2007 the Pre-Fathers Night Bashment featured:  Tanya Stephens, Natural Black and DYCR.

This concert comes after a  two year promotions hiatus and will also feature a line up of local acts. Promoter Lewis who resides between Guyana and Jamaica has informed that Guyana is his home and that he’s ready again to offer Guyana an international lineup of entertainers to add to the development of the local entertainment industry offerings for the festive season. The show is slated for staging on December 18th at the National Stadium.  In addition to the artistes being present to entertain, Jamaica’s RETV will be on location too to cover the event. Beenie Man is no stranger to the local shores and always attracts a large following of Guyanese.  The door remains open for more of corporate Guyana to jump onboard to give Guyana a most memorable Pre-Christmas event.

Lewis notes that in years past “all of our events have been violence free and well supported by the masses and we do not foresee that mode changing”.

He also noted that “As part of our plan we are proposing to give a minimum of 10 percent of the profits from this event to bring Christmas cheer to the children of the Joshua House Children’s Home”.

Its Gana Bhajana Time

Dance GroupGuyanese, especially those with a penchant for Indian theatre, will be enthralled with the latest addition to entertainment. The term, “Gana Bhajana” was fondly used in the past by Guyanese when trying to explain certain Indian shows that were forthcoming. Even some Indian movies, given their routine storyline, were in some way referred to as “Gana Bhajana”.

Given its association to Indian entertainment, the Dramatic Arts Academy, thought of presenting a variety show including songs, dances and drama aptly titled, “Gana Bhajana”. The hilarious entertainment package features a number of comedy skits including the one-act play, “Abu Hassan pays his debts”. The skits do not only present opportunities for laughter, but examine pertinent issues relating to Bollywood movies and some of its stars.

Bollywood’s influence on many fans here is well known making it easier for the audience to relate to the issues. The skits will be complimented by exhilarating dances by members of the popular Sitare and Shelita’s dance troupes. What would a Bollywood show be without dances? Not to be outdone, members of the cast will spoof some popular
songs in dance.

The one-act “Abu Hassan pays his debts” highlights the extremes someone will go to pay what he/she owes. A cunning husband convinces his loyal but sceptical wife to play along in a scheme to outwit his creditors. This plan evolves without his control creating circumstances he didn’t envisaged. The King, the Princess and other members of the royal household descended upon his home creating chaos beyond imagination. This chaos is what provides laughter for the audience.

many skits.

With his £100 inheritance he started a brewery with his brother only to break away three years later to establish what would become his leap into greatness. It is estimated that at least 5.5 million pints of Guinness are drank worldwide, per day. Arthur Guinness’ impressive legacy has survived for more than two centuries.  People from all over the world are united in celebration of the man, the pioneer and the genius behind the “black stuff”.

Guyanese Singer Killed in Hit-and-run in US

The Late Jermaine ForresterDriver arrested – The Jersey Journal

The music fraternity in the Caribbean region was thrown into a state of being “sad” yesterday as news spread of the death of promising US based Guyanese singer Jermaine Forrester. The 33-year- who came to prominence as a lead singer with the group ‘4play’ recently released a single titled “Gonna Be Alright” but for his Guyanese family it turned out to be the opposite.

The 33-year-old was killed in a Jersey City hit-and-run accident yesterday and the driver has since made a court appearance.

The Jersey Journal reports a Harrington Park man made his first court appearance yesterday afternoon on charges that he killed a New York City man in a hit-and-run collision in Jersey City yesterday morning before his arrest in River Vale by officers on the lookout for his vehicle, officials said.

“Holy s—! I killed that guy?” said John Dineen, 23, when River Vale Police Officer Christopher Bulger told him he was being charged with death by auto and other offences, reports said.
River Vale Police Chief Michael McCann said Bulger recognized Dineen’s speeding vehicle at 1:13 a.m. based on the alert issued by Jersey City police.

Dineen is charged with death by auto, endangering an injured victim and other offences in connection to the collision that killed Jermaine Forrester, 33, of Springfield in Queens, as he was crossing the State Highway 139 at Bevan Street at 12:48 a.m. today, Jersey City police said.

A driver who witnessed the fatal collision followed Dineen’s 2009 black Toyota Land Cruiser north on Kennedy Boulevard but went back to the accident scene when he realized it wasn’t going to stop, police said.

A pedestrian who was walking in front of Forrester said he heard a loud noise and when he turned he saw Forrester flying through the air before coming down on the pavement, reports said. Another witness told police the vehicle that hit Forrester pulled over for a moment before speeding away.

Forrester was pronounced dead at the scene and Jersey City police officers contacted his mother and notified her of his death, reports said. When Dineen was spotted in River Vale he was travelling 48 miles per hour in a 35-mile per hour zone and the police officer noticed the SUV had a smashed headlight.

After failing a sobriety test and refusing a Breathalyzer test, Dineen was arrested on the charge of driving while intoxicated and brought the Hackensack University Medical Center, reports said. At the hospital he refused a blood test that would determine his blood-alcohol level, McCann said.

While being brought back to Jersey City, Dineen said “I can’t believe that I killed that guy. I can’t believe I hit him,” reports said, adding that an officer advised him to remain silent.

When he appeared in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City yesterday afternoon Dineen was wearing a white undershirt, brown slacks and black dress shoes. His hands were cuffed behind his back. He appeared stunned.
Dineen’s lawyer, Otto J. Scerbo, described him as a Bergen County resident, college student and lifetime resident of New Jersey. Dineen said nothing at the hearing before being escorted from court by Sheriffs officers. After the hearing, Scerbo said he had no comment.
While being booked at Jersey City’s North District Police Station, Dineen said “please give me something to throw up in I’m gonna be sick thinking about the guy I just hit.”
An officer told the judge Margaret Marley of the statement and at 4:12 Hrs she stipulated it represented probably cause to charge Dineen with death by auto. The charge is a first-degree crime since alcohol was allegedly involved, Jersey City Police Director Sam Jefferson said.
