Wildfire Productions Team

Ignition Concert

Wildfire Productions is committed to our role in developing the entertainment industry and so we are set to ignite with our first concert for 2008 with other concerts to follow.

This being our first concert for 2008 we chose the name Ignition as it is our startup concert, so to speak, for other concerts we have planned for the year. People are already familiar with our last concert of 2007 THE INFERNO CONCERT and can expect just the same quality and better planning and promotions surrounding the IGNITION CONCERT from Wildfire Productions. The IGNITION will be featuring some of the best artists in the business such as the legendary Bounty Killer, the ladies man Wayne Wonder, and the youngest dancehall star QQ.

What to expect

If people did not get into the partying mood for 2008 then this is their ignition. We have chosen artists we feel will give high quality and entertaining performances for the different likes of reggae music. QQ being the youngest should not be confused with inexperience. He has quite a number of songs including the dancehall hits Stukie and Tek it to dem. His stage performance is unreal and many will be surprised when they see this young fireball burst unto the stage. Wayne Wonder’s lover’s rock will definitely have the ladies crooning down memory lane and the fellas going back to the good ol’ days. But Wayne, being the veteran he is, has maintained with the dancehall scene and like a true veteran grew with it. His new album has current hits that play in the dancehall and radio. He is known for classics such as Saddest Day, Live and Learn, Excess amount of Loving, and newer hits such as Anything goes, Hold me now, Exposed, Bounce Along, No Letting Go, and the list goes on!

Then there is the legendary and mighty Bounty Killer. If you do not know him by name you know him by reputation. Bounty is a seasoned veteran performer with many hits and international collaborations with artists such as Damian Marley, No Doubt, The Fugees, Busta Rhymes and others. He has been nominated for grammies and given 4 star ratings by Rolling Stone. One of the more popular factors here in Guyana about Bounty is his rivalry with Beenie Man. Even though they are friends off stage, they are fierce competitors onstage. Bounty is very popular and many can expect great things from him at the Ignition concert… he will be definitely one to start things up for Wildfire and Guyana for 2008!

Sponsors

Even though the economy is challenging right now and not many sponsors are on board, we do recognize the need for consistent high quality entertainment. With Carifesta not too far off, we feel that the timing for our first concert is just right so that people can come out and have a great night of entertainment. We would like to thank:
Ansa Mcal through their product Carib Beer , F&H Printing who will be printing all fliers and posters,

Caribbean Airlines, White Castle Fish Shop, Facts N Roses

GFW: Ready to Go 2nd Time Around

Sonia Noel, CEO of Guyana Fashion Weekend has informed that the annual event is ready to explode for the second time in Guyana. The prestigious fashion event was staged at the end of last summer at Buddy’s International Hotel and attracted over eight hundred (800) patrons each night. The red carpet event saw the who’s who in Guyana, Minister’s of Government and even the head of state His Excellency The Hon. Bharrat Jagdeo.

One member of the International Press said, “Guyana Fashion Week is a very important and necessary addition to the emerging list of international fashion weeks. Sonia and the staff at Guyana Fashion Week have given national designers the opportunity to present and be represented on a global scale. GFW also showcases the best of Guyana as well — whether Fashion or Tourism, Media, Restaurants, or Government. It’s a win-win situation all the way around. Guyana Fashion Week was really an eye opener and I look forward to its growth.” This statement was echoed by all persons who caught a glimpse of the event live, recorded or in print.

Guyana is now a new fashion Mecca and CEO Sonia Noel says she is looking forward to working with new and exciting talent for the 2008 event. She also expressed pleasure in the countless phone calls she would have received from persons wanting to be a part of the event in one way or another. She also added that in 2008 she would love to see designers catering more to men, as males are now a lot more fashion conscious.

The bar will be raised in 2008! Designers will have the opportunity to undergo more training prior to preparing their collections, a greater scope of designers from the Latin American and French Caribbean Regions will be invited to showcase their collections and patrons can expect models to be in fine form when they take that strut on the catwalk.

The Government of Guyana was instrumental in the 2007 show and Noel informed, “What is even more exciting is that Guyana Fashion Weekend was invited to be a part of the Carifesta 2008 programme! That means that a broad spectrum of visitors will be in the country to witness the most amazing fashion spectacle in Guyana. This gives designers the opportunity to broaden their horizons and interact for greater business opportunities.

Guyana Fashion Weekend will be staged from August 26th – August 30th and its planned to be mind blowing! Persons needed more information can call 592-680-6325 or email at [email protected].

Mashramani 2008

For some Mashramani is the celebration after hard work, for others it’s the coming together of the six races to celebrate as one people, and still for others it’s a time of reflecting, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

Mashramani is an Amerindian word which means ‘celebration after hard work’. This year it took on a different meaning, Mashramani meant coming together and carrying on in euphoria despite the recent tragedies affecting Guyana and its people. These tragedies threatened the success of this year’s activity but Guyanese pressed on and came together to make this years celebration as enjoyable as past years.
Though not as big as previous years and lacking the participation of some big bands, the revellers took to the streets, gyrating to both local and international soca songs, in their creative and colourful costumes they showed the true spirit of Guyanese, a kind people, a hospitable people, a people that would stand together no matter what. The bands were few but the hype and excitement that came with the revellers spoke volumes.

The bands and revellers weren’t the only ones contributing to the Mash spirit, the spectators both young and old, from all backgrounds and ethnicities added to the festivities. Either dressed in their traditional colours, carrying their flags high, picnicking with family and friends, or simply gyrating to the music, Guyanese were out in their numbers and enjoying every minute of it.
Mashramani is considered one of the most colourful festivals on the Guyanese calendar, this year proved no different. The Church, Digicel’s ‘Odyssey’, Concept Entertainment’s ‘Nature’s Way’, the Ministries of Health, Education, Culture Youth and Sport, among other organizations all helped in creating colour and excitement and celebrating togetherness.
The beauty of Guyana was highlighted by many of these bands through the festive costumes wore by revellers, the ease in which they came together and celebrated despite the hiccups in the country; this signals the strength evident in all Guyanese and the hope that things will return to normalcy. GT&T did not participate but remained patriotic by sponsoring a section of the Body of Christ’s Band. Other local businesses and organizations pitched in and assisted in one way or the other in making Mash 2008 the success it was.
Guyanese did not fail to showcase the beauty of their country and their personality as a people, despite the mayhem in the country; they celebrated together as a people and as a country willing to move forward.

The event was pure Guyanese, according to Adrian Dutchin “100% Guyanese from my head straight down to my toes”. Adrian Dutchin and many of our Guyanese artistes, as they prefer to be called, were out and about with the bands and revelers. Shelly G, Vanilla, Jumo, Malo and others were there to support and to add to the festivities. The artistes were not only present but their songs were played throughout the mash procession.

The celebrations ended earlier this year than past years, owning to the situation in the country many persons were afraid to stay out of their homes too late and added to that Guyana was playing in the semi- final position in the Stanford 20/20 competition so persons were eager to go home early. Cricket a Guyanese thing!
Not the youngsters though, the usual after mash lime which is usually from Texaco Service Station to Popeye’s on Vlissengen Road was in full swing. Persons were still in the mash spirit gyrating and carrying on to the music being played. For Guyanese a party is a party regardless of the negativities surrounding certain issues. The number of persons out was not as much as previous years but persons were out nonetheless. Those who weren’t chatting with friends or ‘wining’ to the music being played were glowed to the portable television in a car in front of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) showing the 20/20 match between Guyana and Jamaica.

The night wasn’t done there. The club going ‘passe’ was having a ball in either Blue Iguana who had Caribbean artistes Denise Belfon and Peter Ram or the Tunnel who simply had a soca party. Guyanese needed an avenue to collect themselves and reconnect with society and Mash did this for them. It allowed them to have a good time without thinking about the situation in the country; to go out with family and friends and to enjoy our culture as one people.

Mashramani was not only a celebration after hard work but it was a celebration of unity and togetherness for the Guyanese people in a time when they needed it most. The day set aside to honour our Republic and our culture was well received and supported. And it was indeed 100% a Guyanese thing.

It was a very intense session at the GNS ground on Carifesta Avenue as the team held their second meet for the day. The afternoon practice included warm-up drills followed by scrimmage restricted to two-touch. The team seemed quite ready and fearless of the future contenders on the road to the World Cup qualifiers. A high team morale was evident as the ‘A’ team (orange) played the ‘B’ team (white) during the session.

The Golden Jaguars technical staff includes Wayne Dover (Head Coach), Kavin Pearce (Assistant Coach), Lindley Longhorn (Physical Trainer and Medic) and Jamaal Shabazz (Technical Director). The physical trainer and medic proved quite capable when instructing the team during the warm-ups and the warm-downs. When asked about the team’s future plans, head coach Wayne Dover mentioned several international friendly matches are to be played prior to the World Cup 2010 qualifying matches scheduled for June in Suriname.

Guinness Christmas Fest

Guyana came alive in anticipation of Beenie Man, the “Dr. Moses” himself, at the National park on December 29th, 2007. A massive crowed, coupled with hype characteristic of the “King” assured all of this: Guyana was about to enjoy classics like “Romie” and “Dancehall Queen,” and would rock to new hits like “Swing it Away.”

The Guinness- sponsored event has audio provided by the Lion Heart Sound System, which showcased some of the best DJ-ing of the hottest tracks of 2007. This set the stage for the local artistes who came on at 11 p.m. Fojo was first. He was followed by Adrian Dutchin and Jomo of X2, who delivered a very exciting performance for the ladies. Shelly G then made her appearance and performed hit songs “Touch Meh” and “Freaky Freaky.” The show also featured some new local talents; Silver Cat was the last of the local performers for the evening.

Fambo was next in line and performed a few of his hits, including “Drunken Dance.” It was then time for the King to take over. He made a spectacular entrance and proved his impeccable stage presence. He held the crowd in high anticipation as his band started up, and successfully held momentum throughout a truly sensational performance. His band must be acknowledged for its absolutely amazing accompaniment.

Due to the large gathering, transportation proved to be a hassle as it began to rain. This, however, did not quell the enjoyment of the evening’s proceedings. The night was basically a combination of pure hype, a great crowd and sheer enjoyment for all.

Feed a Child for the Holidays

Feed a Child for the Holidays is a private group dedicated to making a humanitarian effort to support the less fortunate children in orphanages in Guyana in keeping with the spirit of Christmas. Feed a Child for the Holidays endeavours to bring gifts and encouragement to children. It is a charitable initiative that will provide gifts, food items, basic necessities, and clothing for two (2) sets of orphans and vulnerable children in Guyana.

Recently, Feed a Child for the Holidays planned a Christmas party for the children of Youth Challenge Guyana’s Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s programme on the 15th December, 2007. Over 60 children were treated to a fun filled party; there was face painting, games and lots of food. At the end of the party each child was given a gift and a party bag.

The second activity will be on 22nd December and this would be for the children of the Convalescent home. Feed a Child for the Holidays will be taking gifts and a snack for the children. Also there will be face painting. We intend to spend the afternoon with the children at the Convalescent home.

Feed a Child for the Holidays would not be a success without the help of local businesses and public spirited citizens who all pitched in and contributed to the worthy cause.

Guyana Fashion Weekend Night 2

The Guyana Fashion Weekend closed on a high note last evening at the Buddy’s International Hotel. The proceedings that evening were dominated by Guyanese designers and models. The Master of ceremonies for the evening was Ronnie Morris, who opened the show by singing a well-received rendition of “You raised me up.”

Patricia Coates was the first Guyanese designer of the evening to showcase evening and casual wear. This presentation got the evening off on a positive and promising start. Her collection included lightweight, colourful and stylish pieces, which the models displayed with confidence and elegance.

Next was the sister team of Nikisha and Nuddine Telford out of Linden. They displayed an array of colorful designs that were party-oriented, racy in comparison to those of the other designers, and which provided a true reflection of youth. They also sought to integrate some semi-formal and casual fashion into their presentation. The Telford sisters presented their fashion line dubbed “Climax Designs” for which they were OR and were also awarded the title of “Most Promising New Designers” by the publisher of Shabeau magazine. Along with this title, the young ladies will receive a full pictorial and editorial display in the magazine, and have also received a trophy. The young ladies were offered a grand opportunity to showcase their pieces at an international fashion show to be held in Trinidad and Tobago sometime soon. Guyanese publisher of Shabeau magazine said that she will continue to support Sonia Noel in the presentation of Guyana Fashion Weekend, and is very honoured to give back to her country.

Designer Rhonda Dunbar’s segment included semi-formal and casual pieces. She began her career by designing the costumes for the group X2. Because of the encouragement she received, she proceeded to design Adrian Dutchin’s costume for the 2006 Soca Monarch competition, which he won. She also designed the costume which he performed in at this year’s competition.

Lou Ann Jackson followed with her colourful designs of casual and evening apparel. Prior to this, only female models were selected to showcase the pieces. The male models used for this presentation brought added flavour to the proceedings as they showcased not only the clothes, but also their chizzled physique much to the satisfaction of the females in attendance. Her pieces were mainly hand- painted and featured accessories to enhance the look.

Derek Moore was up next. He presented his “D’ Adlaid” fashion line, which consisted of simple, fashionable evening wear. His clothing line also included some semi-formal pieces which were perfectly displayed by the beautiful and confident female models.

Andrea Braithwaite introduced her line of “Timeless Treasures” to the gathering. Her designs were elegant, stylish and comfortable. She also included in her line, provisions for full- figured women who would choose to be elegant, fashionable while maintaining a modest look. She pulled this off seamlessly, taking into consideration different age groups and body types. This was important to note as it shows her experience in dealing with different types of people and her ability to therefore make adjustments to suit any client.

Sonola Forte kicked off the second half with evening wear from her “Bumble Bee” collection. Her stylish designs were displayed with chic and grace by the local and international models. Forte’s designs consisted more of close-fitting clothing than loose flowing apparel. Following her display advisor to the President and PPP/C M.P., Mr. Odinga Lumumba addressed the gathering. In his address he congratulated the committee on a job well done and outlined some benefits that can be gained by hosting such an event in Guyana. He also said that this event allows the world to see what Guyana can produce in terms of fashion and entertainment. He also applauded Sonia Noel for her vision and dedication to the project and stated that “this woman has belly” to have executed such a monumental and historical event in this country.

Trinidadian Dominique Laroche unveiled his “Wearable Art” to the fashion enthusiasts present at the Buddy’s International Hotel. He utilized black veils to cover the head of his models to add a different flair and a bit of flavour. The high point of his presentation was when one of the male models came out in fawn slacks and a cream long sleeved top. When he was headed back and halfway down the runway the model turned around, took off his top, turned it over, then reveal a reversible side to the top. This was received with amazement and satisfaction by the females present. He also showcased a beautiful flowing white wedding gown with a matching male veil. This was an interesting insertion into the night’s proceedings.

Anetha Daniels followed with African print. This 30-year Guyanese resident of England shaked things up a bit by playing the recent hit single “African Queen” as catwalk music to fittingly display her African print designs. She also presented matching male and female African bridal apparel which was most delightful and entertaining. Donna Dove resides in the USA but originates from the twin island republic and brought her “Sugarcane” collection to the shores of Guyana. She expertly fitted both male and female models with colorful hand- painted clothing to reflect the bright colorful nature of the Caribbean. She also made provisions for full figured women in her line.

The final designer was, most appropriately, Ms. Sonia Noel. She brought the curtains down on this inaugural Guyana Fashion Weekend by displaying her fashion line “Mariska’s Designs”. Her pieces were accessorized with leopard spotted hats and scarves and added spice to the display. She also sought to display her versatility and skill by displaying a pair of models wearing the same coloured clothing but in different styles. To seal the deal so to speak all the models who participated in the event were asked to take one final trip down the catwalk. This event is expected to be an annual feature and will grow, as the years progress, to attract even more international attention and will hold a significant place in our country’s entertainment and tourism sector. Congratulations to the committee particularly Ms. Sonia Noel, on a job well done. Thank you for your vision and determination.

Guyana Fashion Weekend Opening Night

The Guyana fashion weekend 2007, held at the Buddy’s International Hotel, got off to a very good start last evening with an excellent display of fashion locally, regionally and internationally.

The brainchild of local and international designer Sonia Noel, the event was handled with strict professionalism. The time printed on the tickets was 19:00 hrs, this time was upheld and may have hurt those who like to be *fashionably late*. According to a source, at 18:00 hrs the first two designers scheduled to display their pieces already had their models ready for the catwalk; all they had to do is keep cool until show time. This alone shows the level of preparedness and professionalism present in the organizing and executing this presentation.

The models were excellent in their presentation of the pieces they were selected to perform in, the females were graceful and poised as they strutted their stuff down the catwalk. Their appearance came to the pleasure of the men in attendance. The swimsuit and lingerie segments were exceptionally entertaining and fun to watch. The models were of differing ages and body types. The designers expertly fitted them with pieces which matched each body type and age exquisitely. The male contingent was atheistically received by the many females in attendance. There was hearty applause, whistles of approval and even shouts of encouragement coming from the packed conference room. The men moved confidently along the catwalk displaying swimsuits, shorts & casual wear. There was one difference when a male and a female model appeared together holding hands wearing matching black lingerie. They appeared to the pleasure and satisfaction of the gathering.

The music chosen for the event was mainly soca, pop, and some funk. This fast -paced music was no challenge for the well-trained models who were able to step to the beats with accuracy and style. There was one notable change in the music which caught my attention. Designer Cleon Cummings, out of the USA, started his segment of the program with Vybz Kartel. This was the only time during the evening that a dub, hip hop, and reggae mix was added to the music selections.

The designers who showcased their outfit brought a blend of the various styles of clothing. There were sizzling displays of swimwear and lingerie, elegant displays of casual wear, and to a lesser extent evening and formal wear. Some designers decided to spice up their displays with body and face paintings, costumes, and one designer even used hats in addition to the designs. Some designers displayed their matching male and female pieces which was a good sign of versatility. The majority of the designers opted to use a mixture of male and female models for their presentations. Sonia Noel on the other hand decided to showcase her collection utilizing only male models. This decision was certainly not contested by the female contingent of the large audience.

On the down side, my opinion is that the seating accommodations left a lot to be desired. There was no clear distinction between the V.I.P and L.I.P-less important people- seating areas. I was made to understand the only difference between the V.I.P tickets and the ordinary tickets was complimentary drinks. Some parts of the room were still hot despite the fact the air conditioning was on. Despite this, the evening was hailed as a success by the many patrons who made this a sold out affair. This event has undoubtedly propelled the fashion industry, the entertainment arena, the tourism sector and by virtue of that the country even more unto the international scene in a positive light.

From all indications the event was a tremendous success. It was considered a success not only because it was sold out, but because there were several notable figures present. Some of the more notworthy individuals there were His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo, the Minister of Tourism- Mr. Maniram Prashad – and Franchise owner for the Miss Guyana World pageant and M.P. Mr. Odinga Lamumba. With this level of support the event was bound to attract the attention it received.
